The Cuban Baseball Teams
The first Championship game was played in December of 1878. Habana defeated Almendares starting the great rivalry between the two main teams of Cuban Baseball. Through out Cuban Baseball history many other teams took the field. Teams like Cuba, Fe, Matanzas, San Francisco, Marianao, Santa Clara and Cienfuegos. Cubans also excelled in Amateur Baseball, Caribbean World Series and International competitions. Cuban teams played in the Organized Negro Leagues and as Independents. In the Minor leagues the Havana Cubans, Florida International League from 1946-53, and the Cuban Sugar Kings, International League 1954-1960, brought Cuban baseball to the mainstream in the United States.
