FeloMarinoPasion Magazine held it’s first annual awards banquet on February 13, 2008 in Coconut Grove, Florida. Receiving Awards were Mike Lowell, Sportsman of the Year and Yunel Escobar, Rookie of the Year. Also honored were Broadcaster Felo Ramirez and Writer Angel Torres. Pictured on the right is Marino Martinez, Felo Ramirez and myself.

TiantMinoso2008 Salon de la Fama del Deporte Cubano (Cuban Sports Hall of Fame), founded by Sports Editor Marino Martinez, held it’s annual selection luncheon on February 10, 2008 in Miami, Florida. The event featured a special awards given to Cuban baseball great Luis Tiant and Minnie Miñoso and the induction of more Cuban baseball stars, from the amateur leagues. FeloAngel2007 Salon de la Fama del Deporte Cubano (Cuban Sports Hall of Fame) held it’s annual selection luncheon on February 11, 2007 in Miami, Florida. The event featured a special awards given to Cuban baseball great Minnie Miñoso and the induction of more Cuban baseball stars, from the amateur leagues, into the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame. Taylor2006 Salon de la Fama del Deporte Cubano (Cuban Sports Hall of Fame) held it’s annual selection luncheon on January 29, 2006 in Miami, Florida. The event featured special awards given to several Cuban professional league ballplayers and the induction of more Cuban baseball stars, from the amateur leagues, into the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame. For a list see my Cuban Sports Hall of Fame page. Again I had the pleasure of meeting several Cuban Players including Tony Taylor, Cookie Rojas, and Mike de la Hoz. Izquierdo2005 Salon de la Fama del Deporte Cubano (Cuban Sports Hall of Fame) selection luncheon held on February 6, 2005 in Miami, Florida. The event featured the induction of more Cuban baseball stars, from the amateur leagues, into the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame. This time I had the pleasure of meeting several Cuban Players including Tony Taylor, Tony Gonzalez and Enrique Izquierdo, pictured on the right receiving his award.

RobertoRoberto Gonzalez Echevarria presented his new book La gloria de Cuba: historia del béisbol en la isla, during the Miami Book Fair on November 13, 2004. The book is the Spanish language updated version of his outstanding 1999 book, The Pride of Havana: A History of Cuban Baseball. The Yale professor spoke candidly about Cuban baseball and his personal memories of the Cuban version of the sport.

MoreArenas1More Than a Game: A Celebration of Negro League Baseball presented by the African-American Library and Cultural Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. April 2004. During this wonderful event I had the pleasure of meeting Chico Arenas, who played in the minor leagues and with the Indianapolis Clowns, in 1957, at the very end of the Negro League experience.

This wonderfull event featured the induction of several Cuban baseball stars, from the amateur leagues, into the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame. I had the pleasure of meeting Angel Torres, author of several baseball books including "La Leyenda del Beisbol Cubano: 1878-1997.
