The American Series is a Cuban Baseball tradition that began with the arrival of the All-Americans for a set of games in 1891. Until the end of professional baseball in Cuba Major, Minor and Negro League teams from the U.S. toured the island. They played Cuban League, Amateur and Cuban all-star squads. The games were very competitive as seen by the won loss records of the visiting teams. The American Series was very popular with the Cuban fans and the Cuban leagues were scheduled around them. Some of the greatest American baseball players came to the island to play. Men like John McGraw, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, John Henry Lloyd and Oscar Charleston among other Hall of Famers and stars.
