1923-24 Billiken Cards:
Cards picture players from the 1923-24 Cuban Professional League. Front of card features a black and white Photo, players name and team. The back of the cards have an ad for Billiken or La Moda cigarettes. The cards are printed on glossy paper and measure 2"x2-5/8".
This is one of the most popular sets among advanced Cuban baseball card collectors. The set pictures 15 cards each for each team that participated in the 1923-24 Cuban Professional Baseball League. It includes the members of the Santa Clara team, which is considered by many Cuban baseball historians as the greatest Cuban League team ever. Because of Santa Clara’s dominance the championship was called of early, after only 48 games, by league officials. Santa Clara was awarded the crown with a record of 36 wins and 11 loses (.766). Beware of fakes (back hand stamped).
