1926-27 Aguilitas
Produced in 1926-27 for the Aguilitas Cigarette brand, the baseball cards are part of a large collection of cards (900) that featured sports and various subjects. The set includes 33 baseball players from the Cuban Professional and Amateur Leagues. The front of the cards display a black and white photo of the player with the words Base Ball and the players name below. The players are photographed in uniforms from the 1925-26 and the 1926-27 season. Bernardo “Lalo” Rodriguez, Roberto Puig and Jose Echarri played for the Cuban team in the 1926 Central-American and Caribbean Games. The cards can be differentiated from the 1924-25 Aguilitas “Segundas” set by the reference found in the back to the “Serie Artistica,” translated to the “Artistic Series.” The back also displays the card number (751 to 849) and an ad for the Aguilitas Cigarette brand. Four players are found with different numbers Armando Marsans (779 & 829), Daniel Blanco (782 & 832), Roberto Puig (797 & 847), and Juanelo Mirabal (774 & 824). The cards measure approx. 1 9/16” by 2 5/16”. Several Cuban Hall of Fame members and Negro League stars can be found in the set. Click here for printable checklist (PDF)
